This is pretty scary actually. It shows more and more how careful you have to be with your sources on the internet.

It isn't the sources from the internet. The movie company itself used actual news sources from two different towns in Alaska to make it "more real."
One of the newspapers are receiving calls asking if the alien abductions are true.

I love how movies say based on actual events and they are not. i have not seen the movie yet but still. i guess they can say it is based off of actual events cuz there was people with problems in alaska then soo that much is true so it can be based of a true story lol

The problem is the people living in that town was calling up the newspaper wanting to know if the advertisements were true. This is a town with just nine thousand people or so.
You can even google it.
"Nome, Alaska" and the very first entry is Abductions.

The deal is that Alaska is hardly known to the world. With Hollywood shooting in locations other than Alaska, like Vancouver, B.C. or Washington state or Fraking Vermont! (or wherever it was on east coast)It is frustrating to Alaskans because our location is better in person. And we certainly could use the money.
So when movie companies start using real newspapers in their movie advertising WITHOUT permission, it causes more confusion.
I get tired of explaining to people where I live has less snow & humidity than most of the Northern East Coast.
We don't ice storms.
We do not live in ice houses. As matter of fact, it was the fur traders who showed the Inuit how to make shelters out of ice. How to cut blocks out of ice and build shelter from snow storms.
