Why should domestic violence be kept secret? Why would Rihanna have any obligation to keep quiet about an abuser? The more we talk about it, the better it will be for women who are afraid to speak up.

Back to the article, yeah, I agree back. :) My mom and a bunch of other friends/family have been involved in bad situations, and there's already such an instinct or pressure to hide or feel ashamed, or even protect the abuser, that anything we can do to help people feel like it's ok to speak up is a-ok in my book.

I say speak up.....to your brothers, dad, uncles, guy friends, lol you know...the protective ones ;)


I also say just watch that show Snapped about women going to prison. Most of them killed their husbands or boyfriends cuz of the abuse and I would probably say half if not more didn't talk about it so nobody knew. So not only would speaking about it make others aware and hopefully help them to come out but also keep them from killing and going to jail.

Yeah, but it is an every day occurance, and people aren't surprised by it. And when a Celebrity gets abused, everyone is not really concerned, because those people have money, and fame and get into a bad marriage with someone who is another celebrity and the police will protect them from a major court battle. In other words, the victim can claim anything and make it look badder than it really is...

Huh? I didn't mean to upset you, but, most of the celeb's are looking for sympathy. Look, I work at a women shelter, and those people do live around abusive spouses, but none of them will take their story to the press, because they fear for their lives, and that is why a celeb needs to do the same. Tabloids will blow this story to way out of proportions to make money off of the abuse victim. And how is being sweet to you condescending?

you'd think you working at a women's shelter you'd understand the need for women to speak up about it. Yes, I know there are alot of them that are scared they'll get worse. But..if they speak up about it then that would encourage others to do the same. Otherwise they sit there with people like you encouraging them to keep their mouths shut and keep getting beaten. Know why they keep getting a beating from their men??? BECAUSE THE MEN GET AWAY WITH IT BECAUSE THE WOMEN DO NOT COME FORWARD AND SPEAK ABOUT IT!!!

Well, one day she was fed up with the fighting and screaming and yes physical beatings he dished out. So, she went to her sister and they inturn went to the police and filed a restraining order on her husband. A few days and weeks went by, and he stayed away, until one Saturday evening, she and her kids were watching TV, and she heard a noise in the kitchen, one of the children said, and she went to investigate the disturbance. And never came back, a few seconds later a shot rang out. The oldest told his siblings to get into the living room closet and shut up. And as the three sat in the darkened closet a lone figure walked into the dimmly lit room and stood looking around. And when the person left the house via the front door, the oldest crept out of the closet and went to look for his mother. And to his horror, she lay on the floor bleeding from a large bullet wound to the chest. The others stayed in the closet until the Police arrived and had them put into Protective custody by child welfare services. that was in Houston, Texas. An every day occurance. They only reported on it once. The father was charged with manslaughter and sentenced to life in a federal prison, he told the arresting officers according to a reporter, that he did what he felt was best. His wife was a druggy, and leaving the kids alone all hours of the day and night... And guess who suffered for this? Yep, you guessed it. The kids. But the father has rights also. He can do as he pleased with his wife, she was his property, until she turned on him after he tried to so called dicipline her for her drug addictive attitude and stealing from him...
